Dear Brother Knight:

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has called on American Catholics to participate in a Rosary Novena for Life and Liberty Oct. 14-22. Knights and their families, in solidarity with our bishops, are encouraged to unite in this prayer for the defense of human life and religious freedom in the United States and around the world.

Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore will lead a Mass and Pilgrimage for Life and Liberty at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., Sunday, Oct. 14, from 12 to 2:30 p.m. Those in Washington and nearby states who are able to attend are invited to participate in the Mass and Rosary, which will be broadcast by EWTN and other Catholic TV outlets.

More information about the novena and Mass is available at kofc.org/pilgrimage.

Knights are also invited to remain informed on current issues by means of CatholicPulse.com, a news portal operated by the K of C. CatholicPulse.com debuted Oct. 1, replacing Headline Bistro as the Order’s source of national, world and Vatican news for Knights and concerned Catholics. Catholic Pulse also provides thoughtful opinions and articles from top Catholic thinkers to help you understand the Church’s perspective on the issues of our day.

Visit CatholicPulse.com to sign up for daily email updates and remain engaged and informed about the news that affects our lives as Catholics every day.

Fr. Bob Herald

Fr. Robert (Bob) Herald died in Hearne on Monday, October 8, 2012. Hillier Funeral Home is handling the burial. Father Bob will have the wake in St. Mary’s Church in Hearne on Thursday afternoon, October 11, 2012 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm followed by a Rosary. I am also asking Assembly #1091 of Bryan to fall out in Full Regalia with our Assembly #2041 and honor the death of one of our local priest and to be there for our Bishop Joe in Hearne on Friday’s Mass for Fr. Bob Herald.

This Assembly #2041 will talk more tonight at its regular 4th Degree meeting at Zurek Hall. Remember, pot luck dinner, social starts at 6:15 pm followed by meal around 7:00 pm with the 4th Degree meeting starting around 8:00 pm. Fall Classic Volunteer – Special Olympics needed…..

Aquatics Volunteer

Special Olympics Texas 2012 Fall Classic is quickly approaching. Competitions and events will be held October 25-27 in Bryan/College Station. Over 1,800 athletes from around Texas will be competing in aquatics, bocce, golf, and softball. It will take about 1,200 volunteers to make this event happen, so we would like to extend the invitation for you to join us.

Youth ages 8 to 14 are welcome to volunteer with a chaperone, but do not need to reserve their own volunteer position. We require a ratio of one adult for four youth in this age range. Youth ages 15 and up do not need to have a chaperone and thus need to reserve their own volunteer position. Children ages 7 and younger are not allowed to volunteer or accompany an adult while they are volunteering, but are welcome to view the excitement as fans in the stands with a parent or other adult.
Fall Classic volunteer registration will end on October 25 at 10:00 p.m., so sign up early to get your preferred volunteer assignment before the shifts fill.

The need for volunteers large as you can see by do a (control+click) on the link borrow.

By clicking on the event the Eventbrite will come up to provide the site to reserve a spot at the time wanted.

Hoping that each Council can find member that can help with the Call for help.
Remembering the State Deputy Motto “We Are Called”.

August update – Grand Knight

Brother Knights,

There are a number of items that I thought I would bring to your attention as we all lead busy lives and it is easy to lose track. Please take note of the following:

  1. Football tickets – Please remember that the deadline to hand them in is September 14. For those who are selling them, please sell them all. If you would like to sell some, let Ron know. If you want to buy one, please do so at our next Council meeting on Wednesday, September 5.
  2. Gun Raffle – Please consider selling at least one book this year as it is our biggest fund raiser and we need everyone’s involvement in the sale of the tickets. CJ always does a great job organizing and running the raffle so now let’s do our part.
  3. September’s Meeting – I am still looking for someone to prepare and serve the meal for our September 5th meeting. If you are interested in doing this , please let me know.
  4. Volunteer Sign-up – If anyone is looking for volunteers at our next meeting, please prepare your volunteer sheets ahead of time and place them at the table at the front of the hall so our Brother Knights can peruse what opportunities are available. Brother Knights – please make sure to check the sheets and volunteer where and when you can. I know there will be sheets for Texas Reds, Aquinasfest, and more.
  5. Texas Reds Festival – This year this event was put in our budget as a fund raiser to hopefully, raise at least $600. At our August meeting we had only two Knights sign up. We will need at least 12 to realize the budget amount. If you are interested in volunteering on either October 12 or 13, please let me know as soon as possible so I can submit an initial list to the Volunteer Coordinator for this event.
  6. STAY – I would like to thank John Romero, Kyle Incardona, Ed Venegas (and family), and Tom Zike for stepping up and volunteering to help with this event as we will be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for 225 youth on September 9. Kyle is also supplying a large grill that will make this task even easier. I think we might be okay with help but waiting for specific details from James Longoria.
  7. Audit – Our audit was completed in August and submitted. We have one minor glitch with how we record members who have not paid but that has been worked out and is being taken care of. Thank-you to the hard work of Dan King and Paul Marvin for their financial work throughout the year which made the audit easy. Thank-you to our Trustees – Ron Gay, Russ Kellen, and Mike Hlavinka and Deputy Grand Knight, David Gerling, for their work on the audit.
  8. Family Swim Party – Please don’t forget to attend our annual Family Swim Party that will be held at Gary Richardson’s house this year. If you are planning on attending, please contact David Gerling ( davidgerling81@gmail.com or 979.690.2069)
